Melt in your mouth sweet syrupy dessert | Gulab Jamun | Easy

Todays a special day in the Mehri household. My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary and with special days come delectable desserts.

To mark this special occasion I chose Gulab Jamun because Mr. M loves them, like a lot and they’re easy to make. Double win for this mama!

Gulab Jamuns

 

Soft and plump little morsels soaked in syrup

  • 1 Egg (Whisked)
  • 1 Cup Full fat milk powder
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp Fine semolina flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp milk

Syrup

  • 1 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Water
  • 1 tbsp Orange rind
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom (powder)
  1. In a thick bottomed pan, add the sugar, water, orange rind and cardamom and bring to a gentle boil.
  2. After mixture thickens slightly into a honey-like consistency set it aside to cool.

Gulabs

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients into a big bowl
  2. Whisk the egg
  3. Add the egg to the dry ingredients and mix to form a dough
  4. Take about 1 tsp of mix and form a ball . Repeat until all the dough has been used up
  5. Heat some oil but don’t let it get too hot. Add a wooden skewer to test and if bubbles form, switch the fire off and wait 5 min before adding all the rounded dough pieces to the oil 
  6. Fry until they double in size and the colours honey brown
  7. Add the fried dough pieces to the cooled syrup
  8. Cover and switch the heat on to a medium-low flame
  9. Steam the gulab jamuns for 4 min
  10. Serve warm with ice cream or have them on their own with the syrup

Cool stuff:
