I am what you may call a Naan expert. I love when Naan is incredibly soft and full of flavour. It just completes every meal a great curry or any grilled meat. I have experimented for years trying to get great Naan bread without a Tandoor because lets face it, unless you’re uber cool, you probably don’t have one lying around in your backyard. I certainly don’t and thats fine being cool was never my forte.
So, without dragging this on lets jump straight to it

Butter Naan
A great Naan is the perfect companion to curries and grilled anything
Ingredients
- 3 cups Flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp Instant yeast
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup milk warm
- 1 Egg
- 3 tbsp Natural Yoghurt
- 1/3 cup water
- 5 Tbsp Melted butter To butter the Naan 😉
Instructions
- In a bowl, add the flour, baking powder, instant yeast, salt, vegetable oil, milk, egg, yoghurt and half the water
- Knead until the dough comes together. The dough will be slightly sticky and thats ok.
- Add the rest of the water if the dough is too dry
- Cover with a damp cloth and set aside to rise for 3 hours
- Pinch a small piece of dough and roll out
- Place the rolled naan in a tawa or hot frying pan and cook both sides
- Slather in butter and cover with a tea towel until all the naan are cooked
- Serve warm

thank you for letting me know 🙂
Brilliant, now a staple in our house.
We mix everything together in a bread machine and it worked superbly.
Really light and fluffy
Thanks
Robert
Oh wow, never tried it in a bread machine. I am so glad I have a mixer 🙂
Should just say – use the bread machine just to mix the dough. Cook them in the normal way!
